The first information about the Assumption Cathedral in Klimovo dates back to 1778, when it was mentioned as a schismatic church. In 1789, the church was converted to a unified faith. It is known that in 1889, priest Ioann Sorokin served here. According to the Chernigov diocesan records, in 1909, the parish of the Holy Assumption Church had 384 households, 2563 parishioners, and 33 desyatinas of land, including a house for the priest.

According to eyewitness accounts, in the 20th century, there were winter and summer churches at this site, dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Nativity of John the Baptist, surrounded by a fence. In the late thirties, priest Guriy served here. In 1936-37, the winter church was closed and destroyed, while the summer church was converted into a grain storage facility. Hieromonk Guriy Samusenko was executed.

The revival of the church began in the late twentieth century. Initially, services were held in the SCU building, and in 1997, a log structure from the former Pokrovsky church was transported from the village of Ivot in the Dyatkovo district and installed at the site of the destroyed Assumption Church. In 2006, the church was officially put into operation.
