Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Karachev

Фото 1
The church in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was laid in 1818 and was built with the funds of parishioners over ten years. In its main part, there were three altars: the main one in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the right one in the name of the Holy Trinity, and the left one in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Three-Handed." In the refectory part of the church, there were chapels in honor of the Elevation of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord and in the name of the holy miracle workers Cosmas and Damian. By 1847, a bell tower was added to the church. After the Great Patriotic War, the building was used as a warehouse, and in the early 1960s, the refectory part was destroyed, and the bell tower was lost.

On March 5, 2005, with the blessing of Bishop Theophilact of Bryansk and Sevsk, a local Orthodox community was registered, which was given the ruined building of the church.
