The Dormition of the Mother of God Church, the only Old Believer church in the Black Earth region, is located in the city of Kursk. Its construction dates back to 1812, although some sources indicate the 1830s. The church was built for the Old Believer community on the site of an Old Believer chapel.
In 1939, during the Soviet period, the church was closed but reopened during the German occupation. In 1961 (according to other sources, in 1953) it was closed again and used as a warehouse. In 1989, the building was handed over to the Old Believer community and renovated.
In 2001, the church was transferred to the Kursk Diocese and received the status of a monument of history and culture of local significance.
