The decision to build the Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Ekaterinodar was made in 1901 at a meeting of Dubinka residents who attended the recently opened Dormition prayer house. This house was a brick building with a wooden bell tower and a church school. The laying of the church took place on September 26, 1908, and the architect Ivan Malgerb, who also worked on the Catherine and Trinity cathedrals in the city, was responsible for the design. However, the construction of the church was not completed before the October Revolution due to a lack of funds. After the Civil War, with the arrival of Soviet power, construction work resumed.

During the Soviet era, the Dubinka clergy raised 53,000 rubles to complete the construction, with the participation of 120 church communities from the Kuban region. A report by the Soviet activist Krasnobaev, presented at a meeting of the agitprop committee of the district RCP(b) on August 28, 1924, is known. The report mentioned that local priests resisted the anti-religious campaign and began fundraising for the completion of the church, raising up to 53,000 rubles. As a result, the church was completed and consecrated in the second half of the 1920s. However, on April 3, 1931, the presidium of the city council liquidated the religious society of the Dormition Church under fabricated pretexts, and in November 1932, a children's nursery was opened in the church building. In the second half of the 1930s, the building was destroyed by a special demolition brigade.

Today, all that remains of the church, which was located in block No. 498 between Lesnaya, January 9, Slobodskaya (now Kovtyukha), and Pioneer streets, is its image from 1925, when construction was still not completed.
