The wooden building of the Church of the Three Universal Saints was rebuilt in 1851-1853. In 1905, parishioners constructed it in stone. The altar is dedicated to the three universal fathers: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom.

The church was associated with two chapels (one stone and one wooden), a palace school, and parish schools. The parish served the villages of Tikhonovo, Staro-Skakovo, Novo-Skakovo, Kamelgino, Karavai, Larinское, and Kopytsevo.

During the Soviet era, the church was closed and used as a warehouse, but the building was preserved. On December 4, 1996, it was transferred to the Tikhonova Desert Monastery in a semi-emergency state. Restoration work began in 2009: the structures were repaired, and the roof of the main body and narthex was updated; a dome with a drum, copper dome, and cross was made and installed; repairs and plastering of the brickwork of the facades were carried out.

In 2015, a heating main was brought to the church, temporary heating from a gas boiler was arranged, new double-glazed windows were installed, and internal plastering work began. In 2016, extensive work was done on the interior and exterior finishing of the church, a new western porch was added, heating was installed, granite floors were laid, and fixtures were made and mounted. In 2017-2018, a retaining wall and a new porch were built on the north side of the church, internal and external finishing was completed, and wrought and wooden doors, window grilles, and a carved iconostasis were installed.

The reconstructed single-domed church is an example of "Russian eclecticism" with elements of early 20th-century modernism. The main body is covered with a vaulted ceiling and topped with a drum and dome. The window and door frames, cornices, and pilasters are decorated with details in the Russian style of the 17th century. Originally, the church was made of red brick, and after reconstruction using special putty and painting, this style of "brick ornamentation" was preserved.

The total area of the restored church is 315 m².

On February 15, 2016, on the feast day of the Three Universal Saints, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the church for the first time. The church was consecrated on August 8, 2018, by Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk.
