In the center of the village of Karpovka in the Gorodishchensky district, on a hill by the Karpovka River, stands the church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.

According to one version, the construction of the stone church began in the second half of the 18th century with funds from local landowners. The work was carried out by the community and lasted about 25 years. In 1782, a church parish school opened here, and in 1785, the church was completed.

According to another version, the church was built with the funds of Count B. B. Orlov-Denisov. Historical documents report that in 1821, the church of Peter and Paul was laid in the village of Karpovka of the Don Army.

A plaque at the entrance currently states: "Built around 1818, restored in 2007 by the efforts of the team of OAO 'Volgomiasomoltorh' and other donors."

In the 1930s, the church building was used as a club. During the war, it housed the wounded. After the war, the church was turned into a storage facility for grain and vegetables, and part of the building was dismantled for the construction of a dam across the river, at which time the bell tower was also taken down.

The parish of Peter and Paul was established in 1991. Restoration work began in 1998, and the first services in the still-damaged church took place in 1993.
