The parish in the village of Gorodets existed as early as the 17th century, as mentioned in the Orlov Diocesan News of 1899. In the 18th century, the village is referred to as the estate of the Bryansk Ascension Monastery. In 1731, the church in the village burned down, and the peasants acquired an old wooden church in the village of Teshchenichi, which was still sturdy and suitable for worship. In 1732, Abbess Eustolia (Lodygina) appealed to the Synod for permission to build a new church and for its subsequent consecration. The church in the village of Gorodets had an altar dedicated to Saint Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow, or, according to other sources, Saint Alexius, the man of God. In 1938, the church was closed and soon destroyed, and the last priest, Ioann Andreevich Morozov, was arrested on November 4, 1937, and died in custody in 1941.

In 2002, with the blessing of Bishop Theophilact of Bryansk and Sevsk, the parish was revived. With the help of a native of the village of Gorodets, A.A. Simonov, a new wooden church was built in 2005, where interior finishing work is currently being completed.
