The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in the village of Krasnaya Yaruga was built in the late 1990s on the site of a seven-domed brick cathedral that was destroyed during the Soviet era.

The first brick church in Krasnaya Yaruga appeared in 1893, inspired by the architecture of St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Trinity Church in St. Petersburg. It was an impressive seven-domed temple, constructed with funds from the sugar manufacturers Kharitonenkos, who were deeply religious and actively donated to the construction of churches, almshouses, shelters, and schools.

The central dome of the church was adorned with a glass cross, which, reflecting sunlight, created colorful glimmers on the roofs of neighboring houses. No similar church existed in the area.

After the October Revolution, persecution of the Orthodox Church began, and in 1936 the church was destroyed. Its materials were used to build a secondary school.

In 1991, at the request of the faithful, part of the building of a former store on Central Street was transferred and consecrated as a church. In 1995, a decision was made to build a new church, and in the spring of 1996, the first stone was laid.

On December 5, 2000, Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated the new church in honor of Saints Cosmas and Damian. Architecturally, it resembles the famous Church of the Intercession on the Nerl, with the bell tower located on the southern side, where the ringing of the bells is done using a bell.

At the entrance to Krasnaya Yaruga, on November 5, 1999, the first monument in Russia dedicated to the peasantry of the 20th century, who suffered from repression, was unveiled.

The church hosts the Humanitarian Center "Lavka dobra," where those in need, regardless of their registration, citizenship, or religion, can receive clothing, shoes, and essential items.
