The Nikolsky church was originally built in the center of Pavlovsk fortress between 1777 and 1779. The wooden church was surrounded by a stone fence.

A new stone church, which replaced the previous one, was consecrated on June 29, 1853. Its majestic domes were visible even from the neighboring city of Georgievsk, and the sound of the bells carried for many versts, as the height of the bell tower was 51 meters.

In 1937, the church was destroyed. During the Soviet era, a cinema called 'Russia' was located on its site.

In 1999, at the initiative of the head of Novopavlovsk, V.F. Kuznetsov, along with the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, the restoration of the church began with the funds of parishioners and support from sponsors.
