The village of Molchad is first mentioned in chronicles from 1487. At that time, it was located in the Troki Voivodeship within the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and belonged to Grand Duke Kazimir. At the end of the 15th century, he founded a church in Molchad.

Over time, an Orthodox church and a synagogue appeared next to the church in the main square of the village. The church and synagogue have not survived to this day, but the church still stands, serving as a monument of church architecture in the retrospective-Russian style.

The church was built in 1880 based on a standard design that was refined by architect Tikhvinsky between 1869 and 1873. The construction was financed by merchants Nahman Butkovsky, Shimon Skidelsky, and Abram Prekher, who allocated 2475 rubles for this purpose.

The church is a canonical temple that includes a bell tower, refectory, prayer hall, and apse. In the elongated axial symmetrical volumetric-spatial composition, a three-tiered bell tower with a tented top and onion-shaped dome stands out. The main cubic volume under a four-pitched roof is adorned with five domes on octagonal drums, surrounded by a cornice. The rectangular narthex and side chapels are decorated with wedge-shaped pediments on short pilasters and feature deep arched portals. The walls of the temple are made of rubble stone, while the decorative elements are made of brick. The prayer hall is separated from the apse by a three-tiered iconostasis with 13 oil-painted icons.
