The history of the church begins with Archpriest Valery Rozhnov, who is now known as Bishop Philaret. He personally built the Znamensko-Petropavlovsky church in Amosovka.

The village of Amosovka in the Medvensky district of the Kursk region has existed for almost 400 years. In 1679, the nobleman Kondratiy Aksentyev received a land grant of 150 quarters (about 80 hectares) for his service in the Kursk fortress, on the site of present-day Amosovka. By 1903, the village had a population of 534, but there was no church.

The villagers were divided between two parishes: the western peasants attended the church of St. Mitrophan of Voronezh in the village of Panino, while the eastern ones visited the church of Saints Peter and Paul in the village of Petropavlovka. However, during the years of persecution against the Church, the residents of Amosovka lost access to these churches until a church in honor of Saints Peter and Paul was opened in Amosovka under the patronage of Metropolitan Vitaly (Ustinov), the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.

In 1993, the first liturgy was held in the Petropavlovsky church, marking the first appearance of an Orthodox church in Amosovka. This church became the first built by the ROCOR on the territory of Russia. It was small and modest in decoration.

With the growth of the congregation of the Petropavlovsky parish, the need for expansion arose. In 2003, the first liturgy was held in the new altar of the church, consecrated in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God, the Kursk Root. Since then, the church in Amosovka has two altars and is called the Znamensko-Petropavlovsky church.
