The Ruins of St. Barbara's Church in Turosna

Фото 1
An archival document titled "Description of the Varvarinskaya Church of the Novozybkov District in the Village of Turosna according to the sixth-class state of 1869" mentions that the church was built in 1788 by the landowner P. I. Borozdny. In 1805, the building was completed, and in 1853 it was renovated with the support of actual state councilor V. P. Borozdny, who also added a new bell tower. The church was wooden, standing on a brick foundation, and had a similar bell tower.

The last priest of the church, Father Fyodor Lebedev, was arrested in 1937, convicted under articles 58-10 part 1 and 58-11 of the RSFSR Criminal Code, and sentenced to 10 years in a corrective labor camp. After the church was closed, it was subjected to looting and destruction. In recent years, the building was used as a storage facility for fertilizers and pesticides. Currently, the church is in a nearly completely ruined state.
