St. Panteleimon the Healer Church in Yeysk (Lost)

Фото 1
The church of St. Panteleimon the Great Martyr, built in 1890-1891 with funds from parishioners, was designed in an eclectic style. It had a cross-shaped form with a massive octagonal lantern and an onion dome, connected to a long refectory. The altar of the church was consecrated on January 3, 1891. In 1896, a new four-tiered brick bell tower was erected. In the porch, there was an old painting "The Militant Church," which was transferred to the museum of the church-archaeological society in 1905.

In the early 1930s, the church was closed, and in 1936 it was blown up. In its place, a building in the style of Stalinist classicism was erected in 1959, which housed the "October" cinema. From 1996 to 1998, at the request of local parishioners, the cinema building was reconstructed and transformed into the Nikolsky Cathedral, consecrated in 1998 by Archbishop Isidore of Krasnodar and Novorossiysk.
