The first mentions of the George Church in the village of Filatovo date back to the late 18th century. At that time, the village had 263 households, where 405 male householders and 415 Little Russians, who were state peasants, lived. According to the "Reference Book on Churches" from 1909, the church was built in 1783, although the parish's metric books have been kept since 1774. Until 1903, the village of Dolzhenkovo was part of the church's parish. The clerical record indicates that the wooden structure of the church, renovated in 1870 and 1887, had deteriorated, and in 1905 a project for a new building was approved. Construction was completed in 1918. The new church was made of stone, single-story, with five iron domes and 33 windows with grilles. The bell tower was built simultaneously, with six bells. The altar in the church was dedicated to St. George the Victorious. The faience iconostasis, made in 1917, had two tiers and 29 icons. In 1916, there were 269 peasant households and 2 clergy households in the village. The church owned 4 desyatinas of estate land and 52 desyatinas of arable land. Since 1893, a church-parish school operated at the church, where 49 boys and 12 girls studied in 1916. The nearest churches were located in neighboring villages.

In 1922, 7 liturgical items were confiscated from the church. In 1940, the church was closed, but during the Great Patriotic War, services resumed. From 1941, the priest was Nikolai Nikolayevich Preobrazhensky, who served in the church in the 1920s as well. In 1944, a religious association in the village was registered, and the church was attended by up to 1000 people on holidays. In 1951, it was proposed to close the church due to its technical malfunction, but it continued to operate. Services ceased in 1963 due to the absence of a priest, but in 1967 the church became active again. In 1998, the St. George Church was recognized as a monument of cult architecture of regional significance.
