The Church of Demetrius of Thessalonica in the village of Plota was built in the early 21st century on the site of a church with the same name that was destroyed during the Soviet era, which had been erected in the early 20th century.

Before the revolution, there were many churches in the area now known as Prokhorovsky. Among them were two churches dedicated to Demetrius of Thessalonica: one in Plota, built in 1906, and another in Novoselovka, which was constructed in 1856. In Maloyablonovo, there was a wooden Nikolayevsky church built in 1770, and in Zhimolostnoye, a wooden Mitrofanovskaya church built in 1840. However, none of these churches have survived to this day. Some were destroyed in the 1930s during the 'struggle against religion,' others were damaged during the Great Patriotic War, which particularly affected the Prokhorovsky district. Others simply disappeared as their time came to an end.

The new church in Plota was built in the new millennium. On August 8, 2010, Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated the church in the name of Demetrius of Thessalonica, just like the old stone church that existed here more than a hundred years ago.

A children's Sunday school operates at the church.
