The Orthodox St. Demetrius Parish in Kursk was founded in 1995 and named after St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki. The parish's civil charter was adopted on November 19, 1995, and registered on March 22, 1996. The parish is located at: Kursk, 3rd Stepnaya Street. An important event in the parish's history was the first service in the new church, which took place on the evening of Lazarus Saturday, April 3, 2004.

From 1995 to 1999, the church was led by priests Mikhail Basov, Andrei Salomakhin, Vasily Koleschak, and Vladimir Bazhanov. Since August 16, 1999, the rector has been Priest Alexey Pryazhnikov.

The parish closely collaborates with secondary school No. 41. Thanks to the parish's efforts, a building for the Sunday school was constructed, which includes a gym, a prosphora room, and the school itself. The Sunday school for children and adults began its work on September 1, 2009. In 2011, a children's center called 'Academy of Little Ones' opened at the church for children aged 1.5 to 8 years.

In 2006, the Orthodox sports club 'Znamensky' was established at the church, which won a grant in January 2007 at the 'Orthodox Initiative' competition in Nizhny Novgorod with the project 'From Image to Likeness' and has repeatedly won in intercity and interregional competitions. On December 19, 2009, on the feast day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the parish organized regional hand-to-hand combat competitions at school No. 56 for the rector's cup.

Parishioners actively participate in the annual procession with the icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' of Kursk-Korennaya.
