St. Demetrius of Thessalonica Church in Dmitrievka

Фото 1
The Church of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in the village of Dmitrievka, built in the late 19th century in the old Russian style, is an architectural monument. In 1790, a wooden church was constructed in this village in honor of the Great Martyr Demetrius. The brick church, dedicated to the same saint, was built in 1885 and consecrated in 1886. Despite years of persecution, when priests were arrested and shot, and the church was used as a grain storage, the Dmitrievsky church endured. In 1945, the Orthodox community was officially registered. In 2008, the church, which turned almost 130 years old, was left without domes and crosses. The villagers had to wait more than three years before the main Orthodox symbol, the cross, once again adorned their ancient church. Over time, the iron domes rusted, the fittings rotted, and the crosses tilted dangerously. Rescuers removed the leaning domes from the central part and the bell tower.
