The Holy-Demetrius gate chapel became the first building of the monastery. In the autumn of 1992, Bishop Feodosiy measured its cross-shaped outline directly on the ground with his own steps. Construction took place during harsh Siberian winters, with a minimal number of helpers, and often long waits in the cold due to delays with equipment or concrete trucks.

As soon as the roof was completed, liturgies began to be held. Services took place in cold conditions, where breath mingled with the smoke of incense. On September 14, 1993, in this still unfinished church, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II conducted the first Divine Liturgy on the monastery grounds, blessing the Achair monastery for further development.

In the summer of 1997, the church was painted by a team of artists under the guidance of the diocesan iconographer G. A. Adaev. The frescoes depict scenes from Biblical history and the life of the great martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki.

Today, this church may not seem large by modern standards, but the spirit of the first ascetics, absorbed by its walls and witnessed by the Angel of the throne, continues to graciously and invisibly reign under its arches.
