Church of St. John the Baptist in Melikhovo

Фото 1
In the village of Melikhovo, the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist was built in 2007 on the site of a church from the early 20th century, which was destroyed in the 1930s. In 1774, a wooden church was erected here, consecrated in honor of the Epiphany. At the beginning of the 20th century, the parish had 1,087 members, and a zemstvo school operated under it. The church was destroyed in the second half of the 20th century. The new church was consecrated by Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol on July 7, 2007. The church building, designed in the neo-Russian style, is a single-domed square structure without a refectory or bell tower. The narrow pointed windows, wide pilasters that divide the facades, the kokoshniks that crown the main volume, and the helmet-shaped dome on a faceted light drum make it a true masterpiece of contemporary architecture.
