St. John the Baptist Church in Ivanovskoye

Фото 1
The Church of John the Baptist in the village of Ivanovskoye was one of the most notable structures in the area. It was built in 1809 in the style of provincial classicism from red brick. The church included a small refectory, a bell tower, and a high vault that amazed parishioners with its size. The building was adorned with a cornice, and the windows provided maximum light penetration. The construction was funded by the local landowner, Major Ivan Arshenevsky, on the site of an old wooden church. In the 1930s, the church was closed. During World War II, the Germans occupied the bell tower, and our troops were forced to fire at the building, but it withstood and was not completely destroyed.

The restoration of the church began in 2008, and in July 2011, the first Divine Liturgy was held there.
