The brick two-story church of St. John the Baptist was built in 1801. From 1861 to 1864, the building underwent significant reconstruction. Architecturally, the church was an octagon on a square base with a refectory and a tall bell tower. On the first floor was the Znamensky temple with chapels of John the Baptist and Alexius, the man of God. The second floor housed the Ilyinsky, Nikolsky, and Antonie-Theodosiev chapels.

In the 1920s, the church was closed by the Bolsheviks and repurposed for economic needs. The final destruction of the temple occurred around 1929, and the bell tower was demolished in the 1940s.
