Since its founding, the Meschovsk Monastery has been under the protection of the great martyr George the Victorious. Recently, the monastery gained another intercessor named George, the holy martyr George (Lavrov), who was the last abbot of the George Monastery before the revolution.

His canonization took place at the jubilee Archpastoral Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000. On February 23, 2003, a reliquary with parts of the relics of the holy confessor George (Lavrov) was brought to Meschovsk from Obninsk. It was placed in the new wooden church consecrated in his honor.

The wooden church, consisting of a small single-domed structure with an altar and a narthex, was built in 2001. In the mid-2000s, its walls were plastered and painted a light salad color with white architectural details.

In the early years of the revival of the George Monastery, this small church became the center of its prayer life. The church is characterized by modesty: it is topped with a single dome, and inside there is enough space for only a few worshippers. The church houses several venerated relics, including the Golgotha cross with the figures of the saints, found in the ground near the Transfiguration Church in Spas-Zagorye (Maloyaroslavets district) and brought to the Meschovsk Monastery in 2002. In 1998, the cross began to exude myrrh, and the myrrh that flowed from it was found to be healing.
