In the area of the village of Trudovoye, several wooden churches existed from the 15th to the 18th centuries. The closest of them was the church in honor of the great martyr Nikita "on Lebedani," built in 1810 and closed in 1932. During the Great Patriotic War, an embankment road was constructed from its walls for the crossing of Soviet troops over the Yachenka.

In 1990, the residents of the village appealed to Archbishop Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk with a request to build a prayer house in honor of the Kaluga Icon of the Mother of God. At the initiative of the archbishop, the city architecture department developed a project for a Spiritual Center, which was to include a church in honor of the Kaluga Icon of the Mother of God, a memorial church in honor of the martyr John Warrior, and other buildings for educational and charitable activities. On September 27, 1990, a parish in honor of the Kaluga Icon of the Mother of God was established. In June 1991, the city mayor A.I. Minakov allocated a plot on Guryanova Street for the construction of the Spiritual Center.

On July 31, 1991, on the feast day of the Kaluga Icon of the Mother of God, Archbishop Clement and Bishop Dmitry of Tobolsk consecrated the site for the construction of the church. The first service in the newly built prayer house took place on July 31, 1993, conducted by Archbishop Clement. In memory of the soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War, the foundation of the memorial church in honor of the martyr John Warrior was laid on May 9, 1994. On May 2, 1995, Archbishop Clement consecrated the foundation of the future church. From 1994 to 1996, the walls and metal frame of the church's dome were erected.

Construction was interrupted: in 1996, work was halted due to financial difficulties and resumed only in 1999. On August 12, 2005, on the feast day of the martyr John Warrior, with the blessing of Metropolitan Clement, the church's rector, Priest Evgeny Kopylov, conducted the first service. On September 21, on the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, with the blessing of Metropolitan Clement, Priest Evgeny Kopylov celebrated the first Divine Liturgy in this church.
