The church in honor of St. John the Warrior, located at the Hill of Immortality, was founded in 2013 in memory of the residents of Bryansk who fell in battles. Since 2016, services have been held in the church.

On October 24, 2016, Metropolitan Alexander conducted the consecration ceremony of the church along with the clergy of the Bryansk diocese. The event was attended by Deputy Governor Alexander Korobko and the head of Bryansk, Alexander Khlimankov.

Alexander Korobko noted that the construction of the church in honor of St. John the Warrior is an important step in perpetuating the memory of the residents of Bryansk region who died for their homeland. The church is located near the Square of Military Glory at the Hill of Immortality, making this place significant and sacred for all Bryansk residents.

The church was built with funds raised by benefactors, and the contractor was LLC 'Stroydelo'.

St. John the Warrior served in the imperial army under the Byzantine Emperor Julian the Apostate. Being a secret Christian, he, despite his external participation in the persecutions, helped Christians: he freed them and warned them of danger. Julian imprisoned him, where the saint was tortured. When the Christian Jovian became emperor, all Christians were freed, and John lived the remaining years as a true Christian, renowned for his mercy and piety.
