The first church in the village of Vysotsk was built in 1797, but its description has not survived. The second church building appeared in 1827, and in 1874, the old iconostasis was updated at the expense of the parishioners, costing 1275 rubles and 41.5 kopecks in silver, which was a significant amount at that time. In 1879, a church was built in the village that has survived to this day.

According to the "Clerical Records" from 1879, the new church was a wooden building with a bell tower, unheated, on a stone foundation, covered with iron and painted with white oil paint, surrounded by a stone fence. 24000 rubles were spent on its construction. In 1895, a new three-tiered iconostasis of Moscow workmanship was purchased for 13000 rubles, with icons of high quality. The staff of the Michael-Archangel Church included two priests, a deacon, two psalmists, and a prosphora baker. The church elder was elected every three years. Widows and orphans lived by the church. Most of the villagers were Orthodox Christians. In pre-revolutionary Russia, the church actively engaged in popular education, creating church-parish schools and supporting educational institutions. The Michael-Archangel Church was no exception. In 1849, a one-class school for boys opened in the village, and in 1886, a literacy school was established in the church watchman's house.

According to the memories of the old-timers, the church was closed by the Bolsheviks in the 1920s, and immediately after the revolution, the bells were removed, their ringing audible for 15 kilometers. In 1944, after the village was liberated from the fascists, services in the church resumed. The village developed and grew, but the question of reconstructing the church remained unresolved. The building required major repairs to the roof, gutters, walls, and upholstery, but there were no funds. After a lightning strike, a fire occurred, and the dome with stars was dismantled. The bell tower became dilapidated, and in the early 90s, a tilt of the central dome was noticed. The rector, Father Oleg Shpunov, sought ways to restore the church. The design bureau of Ivlev concluded that the monument of wooden architecture from the 19th century was in a state of irreversible destruction due to rot and wood pests. Even simple conservation could have extended its life by decades, but nothing was done. The church became dangerous due to the possibility of the dome collapsing.

However, the history of the church had a good continuation. Priest Pyotr Gritsenko was appointed as the rector, under whom, with God's help, the church was completely reconstructed and restored to its former appearance.
