The village of Staroe Rogovo was settled in the mid-17th century. In 1802, there were 2,254 people of both genders living in Rogovo, with 228 households. The village included the villages of Novaya Rogovaya, Rovenka, and Gerasimova. In 1904, 1,577 men and 1,495 women lived in 394 households.

The church in honor of the Archangel Michael was built in Rogovo in 1676. According to the local church chronicle, a new wooden church was constructed in 1784, which operated until September 19, 1900.

Archive data indicates that in 1820, one of the priests of Rogovaty removed the roofs from the church without permission from the authorities, indicating that repairs were being made that year. In 1833, the church was painted inside and out, and in 1844, parishioners were forced to update the iconostasis. In 1845, a new antimins was issued for the church.

In 1876, the construction of a new stone church began, consecrated on September 19, 1900, in honor of the Archangel Michael. In 1896, a church parish school was opened at the church, which was located in rented premises. There were also two zemstvo schools operating in the parish, in the village and the village of Rovenka.

For the needs of the clergy and the church, 50 desyatins of arable land were allocated: the church owned 4 desyatins, while the remaining 46 desyatins were at the disposal of the clergy. The clergy consisted of a priest and a psalmist.

The church withstood the persecution of Orthodoxy and the years of wars. Since its founding and to this day, the church has maintained its high purpose: prayers have always been offered to God here, without turning the church into a granary or concert hall.
