According to the "Reference Book on Churches, Parishes, and Clergy of the Kursk Diocese for 1908", there was a stone St. Michael the Archangel Church in the village of Gostomlya. It had one altar, and the parish counted 1,572 Orthodox believers, with no schismatics or sectarians present. The village had two zemstvo schools. The church owned 3 dessiatines of homestead land, 31 dessiatines of arable land, and 13 dessiatines of meadow land. The church was served by Priest Mikhail Afanasyevich Klevenksy, Deacon Alexander Fyodorovich Sokolov, and Psalmist Grigory Stefanovich Grytsay. The church was built in 1875.
