The church in the village of Polukotelnikovo was built with the funds of parishioners and consecrated on July 23, 1895, in honor of the prophet Elijah. Initially, it was affiliated with the Elijah church in the village of Kotelnikovo, but in 1899 it received its own clergy. A church parish school operated at the church.

The clergy of the Elijah church paid great attention to the moral upbringing of parishioners. In 1910, priest Pavel Kosminsky founded a sobriety society in the village, the main requirement of which was the renunciation of alcohol. Discussions on the harm of drunkenness were held, books and brochures were distributed, tea houses, reading rooms, and libraries were created, school and family evenings were organized, and mutual assistance was provided. Nurseries for children were also opened.

The church was wooden, single-story, with one iron dome and a gilded cross. Its outer walls were painted, and the porch was closed and supported by wooden pillars. The bell tower was also wooden, two-tiered, with six bells. The iconostasis was wooden, gilded, three-tiered, and contained 20 icons. In 1932, the church was closed, but during the Great Patriotic War, services resumed. Since 1944, the Elijah church has been operating continuously and is protected as a monument of cult architecture of regional significance.
