Originally, the Church of St. Basil the Great was wooden. In 1852, it was moved from the village of Trefilovka in the Rakityansky district to the village of Kryukovo and was established in 1853. Two choirs sang in the church, the Kryukovsky and Trefilovsky choirs.

Since 1876, a parish school began operating in the church's watchman's lodge. Classes started and ended with prayers, and the education lasted three years. Students studied the "Law of God," the "Psalter," as well as the alphabet, writing, and arithmetic. The priest taught.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the parish had 1,192 parishioners. In the center of the village, there was a zemstvo wooden school built in 1903, which later transferred to a brick building of the zemstvo administration. During the Great Patriotic War, the church's dome and part of the building were destroyed during a bombing. In 1946, the dome and building were restored, and the church became active again.

The Church of St. Basil the Great had a beautiful gilded iconostasis and large icons. In 1986, the wooden church burned down on the night of January 13-14. Only the icon of "Blessing of Children" was saved. At that time, Father Leonid (Yeryomenko Leonid Stepanovich from 1980 to 1990) served in the parish, who restored the church in two years.

"Donations for the construction of the new church were collected from all over, even brought from Ukraine," recalled Mother Valentina, Father Leonid's wife. "We prayed at night and rebuilt the church during the day." The new church was built of red brick in the classical style and had the shape of a ship. The churchyard is small, located on the edge of a hill, and is fenced with a metal fence. The church has an octagon on a square base with a semicircular apse, a short refectory, and a single-tier bell tower. The octagon is topped with a dome with an onion-shaped cupola.

The bell tower is crowned with a spire. The church has entrances from the south and west sides. The iconostasis is wooden, carved, and three-tiered. The first row contains the Royal Doors and icons of St. Basil the Great, Archangel Michael, Jesus Christ, the Most Holy Theotokos, Archangel Gabriel, and St. Nicholas. The second row is festive, divided into two parts, and contains icons of the twelve feasts. Above the Royal Doors is the icon of the "Last Supper." The next row consists of five icons, including the icons of the Apostle Paul and the Most Holy Theotokos. Above the "Last Supper" is the icon of the "Baptism in the River Jordan." To the right are the icons of "Jesus Christ and St. Apostle Peter." Above all the rows rises the icon of the Savior. Various saints who dedicated their lives to God are depicted on the walls.

The icon of "Blessing of Children," which survived the fire, took a worthy place in the new church. It is rectangular, measuring 1.6 by 1 meter.

On December 22, 1989, the opening and consecration of the new brick church of St. Basil the Great took place, conducted by Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol.

Since 1990, Father Mikhail (Korshnyavy) served in the church, and since December 17, 2010, Priest Pavel (Vasyanovich) became the rector of the Church of St. Basil the Great in the village of Kryukovo.
