The village of Vygonichi is located 27 kilometers from Bryansk. It emerged over a hundred years ago as a small railway station when the Bryansk-Gomel railway was built. The station was named after the nearby village of Vygonichi, which is four kilometers away and had long remained uninhabited. Thirty years ago, the Vygonichi district was formed, and the village began to grow actively. Now about six thousand people live there. There were no churches in the village, and residents visited the nearest church in the village of Krasnoe, located at a considerable distance. On May 8, 1994, Archbishop of Bryansk and Sevsk Melchizedek blessed the establishment of the Vygonichi parish. On September 7, 1994, documents for the registration of the Nikolsky Orthodox parish in Vygonichi were received at the regional administration. A bank account was opened, and after a long search, a suitable building, a former bank premises, was found.

On November 2, 1995, in Moscow, the first deputy chairman of the State Bank of Russia, Arnold Vasilyevich Vailukov, signed a letter transferring the bank building to the Orthodox parish. After the transfer, repairs were carried out in the building. The first service in the new church in honor of St. Nicholas took place on January 7, 1996, on the feast of the Nativity of Christ, conducted by the abbot of the Svyensky Monastery, Archimandrite Nikodim (Aniskin). On March 2, 1996, major repairs of the church began: the roof was completely replaced, covered with galvanized iron, a dome was installed, and gas was connected. In 2005, with the blessing of Bishop of Bryansk and Sevsk Theophilact, the foundation for a new church was laid in the village of Vygonichi. The site for construction was chosen jointly by the district administration and the ruling archbishop.
