Thousands of Orthodox churches in Russia have been destroyed and desecrated, and the Velikovechny St. Nicholas Church, built in August 1912, is no exception. During the years of godless rule, the church, constructed in the shape of a cross, endured difficult times: first, it was used as a grain storage facility, then as a club, and later it stood abandoned, subjected to the elements and human indifference.

However, the church endured. Our ancestors, who built it, collected 300 eggs from each household to ensure it would stand for centuries. By God's mercy, the church withstood both natural disasters and attempts in the 1990s to turn it into a commercial establishment. The villagers did not allow these plans to be realized, preserving the light of faith in their souls.

In 1990, the revival of destroyed churches began. A.P. Kovtun, a parishioner of the St. Nicholas Church, wrote a letter to the Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting in Krasnodar asking for help in restoring the church. In response, she was given advice on how to start and was suggested to create an initiative group. The women, mostly pensioners, appealed to local authorities and the chairman of the collective farm. Thanks to their efforts and the help of Boris Ivanovich Maltsev, the church began to be restored.

In October 1995, Father Anatoly, a young priest, became the rector of the church and energetically took on the restoration. Under his leadership, the church transformed: domes were erected, the roof was replaced, and bells were installed. In 2012, the church celebrated its centenary, becoming one of the most beautiful in the region.

The church houses myrrh-streaming icons and reliquaries with particles of the relics of many saints. A special grace from God was revealed when the church received a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. A Sunday school operates at the church, where children study the law of God and Church Slavonic.

Thanks to Father Anatoly's efforts, Crosses of Veneration have been installed at the entrance and exit of the village, to which processions are held annually. On festive days, the church gathers up to a thousand people, and during such moments, miracles are often observed, such as a glowing halo above the dome.

After 70 years of oblivion, the church has come back to life. Its splendor and the love of the parishioners grow each year, and the ringing of the bells spreads throughout the area, testifying to a great triumph over past unbelief. God's Word continues to resonate in the hearts of the faithful: 'I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.'
