St. Nicholas Church in Prokhorovka

Фото 1
The Nicholas Church in Prokhorovka was built on the site of an old church that was consecrated in the 1880s. In the 1930s, shortly before the start of the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed and subsequently destroyed.

Sixty years later, in the early 1990s, the Nicholas parish resumed its activities in Prokhorovka. In 1992, the construction of a small church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the most revered saints in the Russian Orthodox Church, began. The church was consecrated and opened on April 23, 1994. It was built temporarily while preparations were made for the construction of a large memorial church, the Peter and Paul Cathedral.

Currently, the main function of this church is to conduct daily services at the memorial church. Therefore, its appearance is quite modest and ordinary for the solemn Prokhorov field. The church holds baptisms, molebens, panikhidas, and divine liturgies.

The feast day is celebrated here twice: on May 22 in honor of the transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and on December 19.
