In the village of Markovo, the church dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra was built in 1824 with funds from parishioners and with the support of landowner Alexander Semyonovich Annenkov. The church was constructed of stone. According to church records, in 1917, the parish of St. Nicholas Church included 343 households in the village of Markovo, with 1,043 men and 1,040 women recorded. During the Soviet period, the church was completely destroyed. Currently, the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra is located in a repurposed building.
