The village of Kshen in the Soviet district of the Kursk region was founded in 1894 and served to support the Kshen railway station, from which it got its name.

In 1904, a wooden church was built in the village square in honor of St. Nicholas for the residents and workers of the station. After the 1917 revolution, the church was decapitated and repurposed as a warehouse, and in 1935 it was completely destroyed. Since then, there has been no church in the village.

In 1992, the first community appeared in the village, which was allocated part of the former administrative building for services. With the arrival of a new rector, Father Nikolai, church life revived: a Sunday school for children opened, and more people began to attend services. The space for the church became cramped, and the need arose for the construction of a new church, church house, and Sunday school. Twenty years ago, the village administration transferred half of the former district executive committee building for the establishment of the church. Thanks to the efforts of the villagers, the building was restored and transformed into a house of prayer, where services are held.

On December 19, 2016, on the feast day of St. Nicholas Wonderworker, a significant event took place for the believers of Kshen, the consecration of the new Nicholas church and the first Divine Liturgy in it.
