The church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, built in the 1840s, replaced the previous wooden Nicholas church mentioned since 1644. The completion date varies: some documents indicate 1844, while others state 1847. In the metric books of the cathedral church from 1780, priest Alexei Pavlovich Dvigubsky of the Nicholas church is mentioned. From 1790 to 1793, he temporarily served as the priest of the cathedral church. Alexei Dvigubsky was known as the father of Ivan Alexeevich Dvigubsky, who became a professor and rector of Moscow University.

The stone church has a cross-shaped form. On January 29, 1843, priest Mikhail Viroslavsky was transferred to the under-construction church, who became a protodeacon a year later. He served here for more than six years before returning to the Nativity of the Mother of God Church. In 1844, the church received the sexton Pyotr Andreevich Laschevsky.

In 1902, major repairs were conducted in the Nicholas church, and the interior was decorated. A new altar with exquisite carvings was installed, the walls were painted with holy images, and the altar floor was raised. The repairs were carried out by the church elder, merchant T.N. Morozov, who became the city mayor in 1908. In 1886, Tit Ilyich was elected as the church's ktitor and was re-elected every three years. In 1892, he received gratitude from the Holy Synod and was awarded medals for diligence.

The consecration of the altar took place on January 31, 1903, with the blessing of Bishop Lavrenty of Kursk and Belgorod. The celebration began on January 30 with an all-night vigil led by Father Vasily Yanshin. The next day, the consecration of the new altar took place, attended by a protodeacon, five priests, and two deacons. The cathedral choir performed a song that left a deep impression on those present. After the liturgy, Kursk missionary Vladimir Shevalevsky delivered a speech, followed by a moleben to St. Nicholas.

In 1909, the church owned 66 desyatinas of land. The priests serving here included Fyodor Yakovlevich Zolotarev, deacon Pyotr Ivanovich Logginov, and psalmist Georgy Petrovich Dosychev. The parish counted 657 souls. The church was closed no later than the 1930s, the domes were destroyed, and the building was used as a warehouse.
