St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Church in Deremne

Фото 1
The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in 1825 by merchant Nikolai Medvedev in honor of his 50th birthday. From its founding until the Soviet repressions, it remained active. From 1930 to 1938, the pastor of the church was a priest from the village of Novaya Romanovka, Archpriest Sergey Skvortsov, who was executed on March 13, 1938. From 1938 to 1943, the church remained abandoned. During the occupation in 1941-1942, the building was used as a field hospital for Russian soldiers. In mid-1943, the church reopened for services, and the first priest was Archpriest Timofey, whose last name is unknown.
