The first church in the village of Petropavlovsk was built in the year of its founding, in 1845. It was a wooden structure located in the center of the village and consecrated in honor of Saints Peter and Paul, whose names became the basis for the village's name.

In 1904, construction of a new church began, funded by donations from parishioners. After the work was completed, it was consecrated in honor of St. Dimitri of Rostov.

During the Soviet years, the church survived but was closed. It housed a school, a motor rewinding workshop, and a dormitory.

In 1988, the St. Dimitri Church became one of the first in Kuban to be returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. A long restoration began. In 2004, parishioners celebrated the 110th anniversary of the Dimitri Church.
