The first mentions of an Orthodox church in this area date back to 1852, when the construction of the Dimitrievskaya stone church with a bell tower began, which lasted twenty years and was completed in 1872. In the 1890s, its parish had up to nine hundred believers.

In 1933, the church was closed. The church building was used for the economic needs of the local collective farm for some time, and then it was destroyed. Half a century later, on November 22, 2011, in the center of Novokhutornoye, Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated the cornerstone for a new church in honor of St. Dimitry, Metropolitan of Rostov, and construction of the stone church began. On November 24, 2012, the bells of the under-construction church were consecrated.

The church, built by the company 'Standartsement', is executed in the best traditions of Russian church architecture: it is a five-domed tent church with a separate bell tower. The majestic structure in the Suzdal style, reflecting the culture and traditions of Orthodox Christianity, has become a true adornment of the village of Novokhutornoye. The tiles on the facade of the church and bell tower are handmade by Moscow craftsmen, and the crosses and domes are made of copper, covered with gold leaf. The bells, cast in the Yaroslavl region, according to the bell ringers, match the tone of the sounds of ancient Russian bells. The iconostasis was created by masters from Murom, a renowned center of Russian icon painting.
