In 2012, the spiritual advisor of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, Kirill, schema-archimandrite Iliy (Nozdrin), blessed the construction of a seven-domed Church of the Meeting of the Lord in the village of Vyatsky Posad, Oryol region. On September 23, 2012, Metropolitan Anthony of Oryol and Bolkhov consecrated the cross laid at the foundation of the church. However, the next day, the cross was vandalized.
By the blessing of Metropolitan Anthony, the relic was kept in the Akhtyr Cathedral in Oryol for a year and a half and was returned to the construction site on June 19, 2014. On February 15, 2013, in Vyatsky Posad, schema-archimandrite Iliy (Nozdrin) held a solemn prayer service at the future church site with the clergy of the diocese. On June 19, 2014, Metropolitan Anthony and schema-archimandrite Iliy performed a prayer service to commence the construction of the church.
The church project was developed in the Sochi workshop "AS-pro" under the guidance of architect Fyodor Afuxenidi, known for the project of the Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands in Sochi. Construction began in 2015, and in the summer of 2016, Patriarch Kirill consecrated the domes and bells of the church.
The Church of the Meeting of the Lord is two-storied. The first service in the lower church of St. Sergius of Radonezh took place on the feast day of the Meeting of the Lord. During the Divine Liturgy, the rector of the church, Father Andrey Panteleev, was assisted by schema-archimandrite Iliy. The upper church was opened on June 9, 2017.
The church is built in a cross-dome system. The largest dome weighs 13 tons and has a diameter of almost 10 meters. The domes were manufactured in Volgodonsk from a metal frame with a titanium nitride coating. The church is designed in the form of a tetraconch and in the Neo-Byzantine style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is surrounded by rectangular narthexes, and on the western side, there is a 40-meter bell tower. The lower church features heated marble floors, and in the summer of 2017, work began on the church's frescoes.
The interior space of the church is divided into three parts: a lower circular corridor, the choir, and the church itself. These parts are formed by four massive columns supporting the dome's vault, creating space for the corridor. Above it are circular choirs, as in ancient Russian churches.
Four heavy bells were cast for the church: the Great Festive bell weighing 29.8 tons, which rings four times a year for major holidays; the Festive bell for the twelve great feasts; the Polyelai bell weighing 9.2 tons; and the 5-ton Weekday bell. The first bell was cast on May 31, 2015, and the last one on August 2, 2015.
