In the land books of I.G. Ogarev and clerk F. Yuryev for the years 1585-86, two churches are mentioned in the village of Zhoshert in the Yaren district: the Church of the Prophet Elijah and the warm Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The Church of the All-Merciful Savior in the Zheshart volost of the Yaren district is noted in the 1755 record book of monasteries and churches of the Veliky Ustyug diocese.

By 1797, there were two wooden churches in the parish: one in the name of the Not Made by Hands Image of the Savior with an altar dedicated to the holy Prophet Elijah, and the other, to St. Nicholas of Myra.

From 1794 to 1807, a two-story stone church was built. The cold part of the church was completed in 1828. The altars are dedicated to the Not Made by Hands Image of the Savior, the holy Prophet Elijah, and St. Nicholas of Myra.

The chapel, the Mezhogskaya Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God, was rebuilt in 1875 from a chapel erected in 1869. The altar is dedicated to the Nativity of the Mother of God. Services were held up to seven times a year.

In 1788, there were 933 parishioners registered at the church, and in 1868, 1280.

The two-story brick church in the style of provincial baroque has a square base with a five-sided altar, a small refectory, and a bell tower. The altars are dedicated to Nicholas and Elijah. The church was closed no later than the 1930s, and the domes were destroyed. Currently, it is abandoned, with most of the vaults and part of the walls of the second floor collapsed.
