The Pechersky Ascension Monastery is a male monastery of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, located in Nizhny Novgorod. It was founded in 1328-1330 by Saint Dionysius of Suzdal and was originally situated in the area of the modern district of Old Pechory, on the banks of the Pechora Volozhka.

The church is located in an annex to the archbishop's residence. At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the northern tower of the monastery fence was connected to this building by a stone annex. From the early 19th century, the upper floor of the archbishop's residence, which had a gallery on stone pillars, was used by the abbot only in the summer, as it was cold.

Under Archimandrite Gavriil, in 1825, a one-story wooden plastered wing was added to the building on the southern side for winter accommodation. At the same time, the upper floor of the residence was likely connected to the Ascension Cathedral via a wooden gallery on an arch with a balustrade leading to its western wing. In 1887 and 1889, at the initiative of the monastery's abbot, Bishop Dimitry Sambikin of Balakhna and vicar of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese, the archbishop's residence underwent major renovations. In the wooden wing, on September 9, 1887, the Cross Church was consecrated in honor of Saints Mitrophan and Tikhon of Voronezh, as well as the Great Martyr Dimitry of Thessalonica.

In 2013, repair and restoration work was carried out in the church. The six-centimeter thick floors made of rectangular limestone slabs were renewed, the brickwork and lime-cement plaster were treated with a neutralizing solution, and the surfaces of the walls, slopes, columns, and vaults were washed. Restoration and recreation of plaster on stone with lime-cement mortar were also conducted on the columns, parts of the vaults of various configurations, slopes of door and window openings, as well as on curved and partially straight walls.
