Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in the Beloberezhskaya Monastery

Фото 1
This small wooden church, built in haste, became the first in the new monastery. The monks of Beloberezhye long sought permission for its construction and were able to obtain it only in February 1721.

For the consecration of the church, Yevdokiya Fyodorovna Lopukhina, the first wife of Peter I, gifted the monastery three icons: the Holy Trinity, the Vladimir Mother of God, and John the Baptist. A description of this church has not survived to this day, but it is likely that its decoration was modest and did not feature any special architectural embellishments.

In 1787, the wooden church of the Forerunner was dismantled and burned due to its dilapidation by order of the Oryol Spiritual Consistory, and a new wooden structure was erected in place of the altar.
