The stone church in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Kapotnya, Moscow province, was built in the second half of the 19th century. Its architectural style is referred to as Russian-Byzantine or pseudo-Russian. Two centuries earlier, a wooden church stood on this site, destroyed by a strong hurricane. The old icons were transferred to the new church.

However, the church was soon closed: in 1938, services ceased, and its premises were used as storage. A memorial plaque to the left of the main entrance recalls the tragic events associated with the church's rector, Sergey Losev, and his wife, Varvara Loseva. They were canonized: in 1937, during the persecution of the church, they were repressed. The priest was accused of allegedly distracting collective farmers from working in the fields and workers from production. Father Sergey was sentenced to ten years in camps but could not endure even half of the term.

Mother Varvara was arrested a couple of months after her husband's trial. In a denunciation, she was accused of threatening communists with divine retribution. During the interrogation, she admitted that she was not afraid of the Bolsheviks and considered her husband innocent. For these words, she was sentenced to execution.

Only in 1991 was the church returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. Among the church's relics, the icons of the Mother of God "Seeking the Lost" and "Bogolyubskaya" are especially venerated. The main altar is dedicated to the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos.
