Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Kabalichi

Фото 1
The parish of the village of Kabalichi has been known since the 17th century as one of the oldest in the modern Bryansk district, however, information about the church from that time has not survived. The last wooden church was built in 1705, but by the 1760s it had fallen into disrepair. In 1768, at the initiative and expense of the landowner Ivan Nikiforovich Tyutchev, the construction of a new church with two altars began: the main one in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin and a warm side altar in honor of the Prophet Elijah. Services in the new church began in 1773 in the side altar, and the main altar was consecrated in 1779 after the completion of all construction and finishing works. Until 1836, the parish included the village of Kabalichi and the village of Glinishchevo. In 1836, it was joined by the village of Baldyzh with the villages of Karpilovka and Sevryukovo. The church has two altars: the main summer altar dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the side winter altar in the refectory part of the church, dedicated to the Holy Prophet Elijah. In 1901, after a major renovation, the church was consecrated again. In the late 1920s, during the period of collectivization, the church was closed and used for economic purposes. In 1994, the parish was reestablished. Services are held in a temporary facility, and the church building is under restoration.
