Church of the Nativity of Christ in Verkhniye Apotchki

In 1947, the Church of the Nativity of Christ in the village of Verkhniye Apotchki was destroyed; it had been built in 1809. This was the second church on this site, distinguished by its impressive size and upward aspiration. The height of the church from the ground to the top of the cross was 40-50 arshins. Nearby stood a bell tower, surrounded by an elegant metal fence. The fence protected not only the church and bell tower but also the graves of notable parishioners. These structures were considered the pinnacle of craftsmanship of that time and represented valuable cultural monuments.

Since August 2009, construction of a new church has begun on the site of the destroyed one. In the spring of 2013, Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk consecrated the new church. Services are held there weekly.
