Information about the founding time of the parish has not survived. According to the census books of 1654, there were nine households in the parish of the Temenich Christmas church. In 1734, landowners from the village of Temenichi, including four Glotovs and five Lvovs, requested permission to build a new wooden church. The old church "in the name of the Nativity of Christ" was cold, making it difficult to hold services in winter. After receiving permission, a new warm church in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker was built next to the Christmas church with funds from Alexander Petrovich Lvov.

In 1832, with funds from Alexei Nikolaevich Lvov, a new stone Christmas church was built in the village instead of two wooden churches. In 1853, artillery captain Nikolai Vasilyevich Vepryetsky repaired and updated the stone temple, adding a tall bell tower, and donated several valuable items to the church. Thanks to his efforts, the Temenich church acquired completeness and artistic uniqueness. Historical chronicles mention priest Ioann Amphiteatrov, who died on March 7, 1908, from a fatal wound inflicted by armed robbers. The church was closed, presumably during the years of collectivization, and was used for economic purposes.

In 1993, the Orthodox community was reestablished, which partially restored the church, and regular services are held there.
