Until 2001, the village of Dobrun did not have its own church. The parish belonged to the Svyensky Assumption Monastery, so the patronal feast in the village is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In early 2001, an independent parish was established in the modern settlement of Dobrun. In honor of the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ, with the blessing of Archbishop Melchizedek of Bryansk and Sevsk, the community of the Church of the Nativity of Christ was registered. Services began to be held in a temporary church located in one of the rooms of the local House of Culture. In May 2003, construction of the Sunday school building, which will house the church, began on a designated plot of land.
