The Church of Mary of Egypt in the village of Maryevka is the only one in the Belgorod and Stary Oskol diocese dedicated to this saint and is one of the few surviving buildings from the 18th century. The name of the village is linked to the church built in honor of St. Mary of Egypt in 1790.

The Orthodox Church commemorates St. Mary of Egypt on the fifth Sunday of Great Lent. According to tradition, she spent 47 years in penitential solitude and prayer, possessing the gift of walking on water as on land.

The church has survived several centuries without destruction, although in the mid-20th century it was used as a grain storage facility. In 1990, the church reopened its doors for worship. Today, the cathedral, painted in an unusual orange-purple color, is a monument of architecture and is under state protection.

Previously, the church was affiliated with the Protection parish of the village of Prilepy and had about 800 parishioners. Among the first priests was Vasily Chulkov, who later became the abbot Benjamin, the rector of the Tolshy Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery.
