In the mid-1550s, the Assumption Cathedral was built with chapels of John the Theologian and St. Catherine, replacing the old wooden church. At the end of the 1550s, a warm church of St. Sergius of Radonezh was erected with a chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on the right side and a refectory.

In 1567, the chapel of the cathedral and the church of Sergius were adorned with wall paintings created by the monastery's abbot Prokhor. Together with the icon painter Arseny, he created most of the icons for the cathedral's iconostasis. By the mid-18th century, the stone buildings of the monastery, considerably dilapidated, were rebuilt.

For the winter church of Sergius, the year 1659 is sometimes cited as the date of reconstruction, but the year 1700 seems more likely. Although the Sergius church is not small, it is overshadowed by the majestic cathedral. It resembles a winter cottage with a dome instead of a chimney. The details of the churches are almost identical, but the pilasters on the low wall of the Sergius church are noticeably shortened. Three deep flutes are carved into the brick on the pilasters, although according to classical canons there should be seven. In all forms, one can feel the habit of stonemasons working with brick. Under the church is a large undercroft with several chambers and separate entrances, where the sacristy and the monastery treasury likely resided. The church is heavily damaged, which is a disaster for the entire ensemble. If urgent measures are not taken, the harmony of these unique and complementary images may disappear forever.

Currently, the buildings of the church are in ruins.
