Historical information about the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh is as follows: in the northwestern part of the monastery, on the site of the current street Oswobozhdenie Truda, a bell tower was built in 1879-1880. Its four tiers with a spire and cross reached a height of 23 sazhen (49 meters). In the first tier, near the entrance gates, there was a cross church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh, consecrated on June 27, 1903. It served as the household church for the vicar bishops of the diocese and the bishops of Ostrogozhsk, who lived in the Akatov Monastery. The second tier housed a hall for public readings. In the 1930s, the upper tier with the spire of the bell tower was destroyed.

In the 1990s, the restoration of the church began. The consecration of the dome and cross, as well as their installation on the roof of the church, took place on May 19-20, 2015. The great consecration of the restored Sergius Church in the Alexeyevsky Akatov Monastery was conducted by Metropolitan Sergey of Voronezh and Liski on October 15, 2015.

Currently, the Liturgy is held in the church on the days of remembrance of St. Sergius of Radonezh: July 5 / July 18, on the day of the discovery of the relics of Sergius, the igumen of Radonezh, miracle worker of all Russia (1422), and September 25 / October 8, on the day of the repose of Sergius, the igumen of Radonezh, miracle worker of all Russia (1392).
